There are many places to see in Mağusa, one of the busiest places in Northern Cyprus.
Mağusa which attracts the attention of many tourists with its mild Mediterranean climate and wonderful beaches, is quite voliminous. The historical fabric of the city manifests itself here as well. The city, where many historical sites come together, offers a fun and informative holiday.

Kapalı Maraş
There is a place in this region that everyone must see in Cyprus. The region, whose real name was Varoşa, was surrounded by the Turkish Armed Forces in 1974. The reason why this region is frightening is that the siege takes place very quickly.
You should add Kapalı Maraş to your to-see list. Until 1974, this region had the most beautiful beaches, the most luxurious hotels. With the influence of entertainment and wonderful nature, it was a place that many people preferred for their holidays. After TSK surrounded this region and stated that no one could enter the city for 3 days, and people could be able to turn their home after providig the security.
Actual frightening part started after that. People left their home with their books open and left their meals in pots. Unfortunately, Varoşa have never opened its doors after 1974 and city became a ghost city. Today, that region is still under control of the military and civils are not allowed tol ive in there.

St.Nicholas Katedrali
One of the most important historical stops in Mağusa is St. Nicholas Cathedral. Built in 11th century A.D, it is one of the few works of gothic architecture. The coronation of kings was held in this cathedral. Thus the reigns of kings became official. Then in the 1500s, the cathedral, which was administered by the Ottoman Empire, was transformed into a church.

The name of the building, which is still used as a mosque, has been changed to Lala Mustafa Paşa Mosque. The trees at the entrance to the cathedral have been around for 700 years and are the oldest living creatures in Cyprus. This tree provides very large canopy areas and its roots are spread over very large areas. The fruit of this tree is called Firavun fruit among the people.

Salamis Antik Kenti
One of the most important historical stops in Mağusa is Salamis Ancient City. This settlement has remains from the 11th century B.C. The city is an important commercial center and one of the strategically located regions of the Mediterranean Sea.
Although this important city state of the Mediterranean lost its power under Persian control for a while, after Alexander the Great took control of Cyprus, the city regained its old power.
After the death of Alexander the Great, the city came under the domination of the Roman Empire and experienced cultural changes as a Roman city. Salamis survived until the 7th century, A.D.
